Protect the ancient forests of the Takayna/Tarkine area
From Hobart I drove to the Tarkine in the north west of the state. Land of ancient trees, which currently has no protection. But David Attenborough and I agree, it needs to be conserved for humanity. The highlight of my stay in the Tarkine was on a hike with a local guide who, a few months earlier, was arrested for chaining himself to an excavator to prevent clear leveling of this exquisite forest.
Sitting along the banks of a dark tea colored river (stained from the tannins of the foliage) I listened to his stories...and I wondered, how could anyone rationalize cutting down a tree of 3,000 years old?
I asked my guide what I can do to help. There is an organization called the Bob Brown Foundation working to protect the Tarkine. So I donated to them and wrote letters.
